Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Occasional lifting of equipment or materials up to 60 lbs. and traversing difficult terrain
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures
  • Basic computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and use of tablet
  • Willingness to perform work after regular business hours, on weekends and holidays when necessary
  • Requires NCDOT material testing and sampling certifications, current certifications preferred, or ability to attain within a +/-90 day timeframe as class scheduling allows:
  • NCDOT Concrete
  • NCDOT QMS Roadway
  • NCDOT Conventional Density
  • NCDOT ABC Sampling
  • NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling
  • NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ year of utility construction experience
  • In-depth knowledge of surveying methods, equipment and material used in highway construction
  • Solid understanding of Utility Design, Roadway Design, Utility Coordination and Conflict Evaluation/Resolution.
  • Full understanding of utility installation inspection and testing procedures
  • Familiar with NCDOT State Utility Statues
